Join us for the inaugural Serving up Hope Charity Sand Volleyball Tournament and Southern Sand Reunion event! Proceeds go towards cancer research. Registration fees are tax-deductible for this event.
A little background: This event was started after the diagnosis of lymphoma cancer in December 2016 of one of the founders of Southern Sand Volleyball and longtime area juniors coach – John Lysik. After going through several rounds of chemotherapy in the Spring of 2017, things are fortunately looking much brighter now. While it’s great news that John is on his way to what will hopefully be a full recovery, lots of people are dealing with very challenging situations involving cancer and often times the end result is not good. The goal of this event is to support cancer research towards an eventual cure to all forms of cancer, while also having a little fun in the sun and sand playing volleyball! We are also using this event as a yearly reunion event for former players with Southern Sand, vh1vball, Club Red, and other groups that both John and Mark, the founders of Southern Sand, have been involved in over the years. Even if you’ve not been involved in the beach game much in recent years, here’s a chance to get out in the sand and reconnect with some past teammates and friends!
Event details:
- Saturday, May 20
- Check-in: 8:30AM
- Play: approx 9AM-3PM. We are not looking to make it a super long day for anyone.
- Formats: Unless otherwise noted, all divisions are open to players in High School or older.
- Coed 4v4 – Played on men’s net. At least 1 player should be a female on the team. All females teams are OK too.
- Competitive
- Recreational – Recommendation for any teams that would like to include middle school aged players with adult players on a team.
- Coed/Girls 4v4 (Middle School) – For any junior players in middle school
- Women’s 2v2
- Men’s 2v2
- Coed 2v2
- Middle School 2v2 (any combination of girls and boys permitted)
- Coed 4v4 – Played on men’s net. At least 1 player should be a female on the team. All females teams are OK too.
No special memberships are required for this event.
